Raising 2 Kids Under 2

I always wanted to have kids close in age and I was lucky enough that our first child was very calm and easy going as a baby that we could try for our second. Our son was just 15 months old when our daughter was born. With the exception of my pregnancy symptoms and getting a few illnesses at the end of my pregnancy, raising my son had been a breeze. Suddenly we became a family of four with "2 kids under 2." So what did we go through being parents of two so close in age? Well here's how…

Why I Narrate To My Kids

I often narrate what I'm doing or what I'm about to do to prepare my kids for what to expect. I usually break things down into steps. I started this to prevent a tantrum when something happens out of their expectation but it helps tremendously in enlarging their communication and vocabulary. Talking To Myself When we had our son, our first, I was told to talk to my child often but once dad went back to work and and I was alone with him we were usually in silence. I always felt awkward talking to him because he couldn't talk…

Baby Bump Photo Sequence

When you're expecting a child everything is very exciting and you cannot wait to meet your child and start a new journey of life. It takes a long time to grow a child but its also a beautiful process. Most parents like to take professional photoshoots at the beginning and end of the pregnancy as well as after the baby is born. My husband and I aren't much for professional photography but with our first I did try to do my own baby bump photo sequence throughout the whole process. I got into the same outfit each time (I made…

A Day at Disney World With Toddlers

For our son's 3rd birthday we planned a family trip to Magic Kingdom for one day as a family of 7. This post is how I planned for our trip for 5 adults and 2 toddlers under the age of 3 and how our day actually went.  Also see: 15 Things to Know Before Going to Disney -as I have recently split this post into two. Both my husband and I have been living in South Florida since we were kids, so Disney has always been fairly close to where we live. I have always been in love with theme parks and…

Toddler Birthday Parties

My little guy (our oldest) is turning 3 soon and I’ve been reminiscing. At no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase. His birthday falls in July, which is when the weather is the most random because its horribly hot and randomly rainy. Car Seats & Strollers

There are tons of carseats and strollers out there, and honestly there is no "best" for either category. Parents are looking for different things depending on their needs and their family size. I can't tell you which double stroller is the best out there, for example, because I haven't taken my kids out in all of them but I can recommend the one I have and the same goes for our car seats. I could add the carrier I used with my children but I will omit that since I did not love it for more than 6 months and…

Toddler Nap Struggles

Journal Entry about convincing my toddler to go to sleep at nap time. Introduction With my son being almost 3 he's become a little more complicated to put down for a nap because he wants to play all day. Today I tried something new and he was dozing off before I could leave the room, which never happens and probably won't work as well again! Babies and toddlers go through different patterns of their daily schedules in relation to meal times and sleeping times mixed with playtime and daily activities/outings. For a while I've established a pattern for us (me…

Our Trip to Zoo Miami

Last week I took the kids on a day trip to Zoo Miami with a couple of friends and their kids. This was our second time there and we were in a hurry that time with no idea what to expect. For this trip we had a few things in mind to try differently. I also have some tips for anyone planning on going to Zoo Miami or planning a trip to any zoo with kids. The park is huge and there's a lot to see! It's well designed but everything is spaced out so if you're on foot you…

The Birth of My Second Child via Planned C-Section

This is my personal story about the birth of my daughter, who was born via planned c-section just 15 months after my emergency c-seciton of our son. Our firstborn came to us via emergency c-section and 15 months later we were having baby number two! My doctor highly recommended a planned c-section this time around for me because the risk factors would be a little higher for having a vaginal birth while still in the healing period from the first surgery. So we picked a date and planned around that. It was great! No more worrying about going into labor…

My Daughter’s Silly Baby Hair

At a year and a half old my daughter's hair has been growing from the back of her cowlick at her crown all the way to her eyes, making it a little difficult to manage. If you're not familiar with a cowlick, its like a hurricane swirl that directs hair in different directions, it's a chunk of hair that has a life of its own. They are usually on the crown of one's scalp, although sometimes on the forehead or back of the neck. They cannot be removed, only somewhat managed, although children's cowlicks are said to mature on their…

DIY Non-Slip Socks

When our babies start to stand up, cruise, and learn to walk socks can become a slippery issue.I didn't like the idea of my kids being barefoot all the time so I adapted their socks to be non-slip.I expected to only do this for their learning-to-walk stages but we ended up loving it so much that I still do it.Toddlers are runners, and they're always distracted. Non-slip socks make our lives a little easier, especially if you have slippery floors.  * This post includes Affiliate Links. Every time I buy my toddlers new socks I cover my counter for a…

Multilingual Parenting – Benefits of Raising Bilingual Children

My husband and I come from mixed backgrounds and both migrated to the United States. as young children. Our children were born here but we're raising them to be multilingual with the combined three languages we speak on a regular basis. People have warned us against teaching our children more than one language at first but we didn't listen, and thank goodness for that. Even though they're still very young, they're pretty good at speaking English, Portuguese and Spanish. We never doubted wanting to raise our children to learn our languages. My husband and I were both raised bilingual and we love…

Toddlers Helping around the House

There's been a lot of back and forth about kids doing chores around the house. Some say it takes away from letting a kid be a kid while others say it teaches responsibility. I think the real concern is, how it's enforced. Of course it's essential that a child does not grow up in prison-like conditions, where they are forced to do hard labor. But do you want your child to grow up to the opposite extreme of having no clue how to care for themselves or do basic things like cook and clean!? The key is: know your limits.…

“Styles” of Parenting

I recently read an article about the six styles of parenting and it really got me thinking about my own parenting and what is really best for our children. The article focused on the pro's and con's of six parenting styles: Helicopter, Free Range, Authoritarian, Permissive, Authoritative, and Uninvolved. "The 6 Styles of Parenting" Helicopter Parenting A common term used with parents who are overly involved in their children's lives. Children raised with this style have higher chances of going to college however sometimes the parent can be too extreme and accidentally sabotage job positions or personal relationships, as shown in many…

Homemade Baby Food Hacks

Baby stores will try to sell you mini appliances for steaming, pureeing, and storing homemade baby food. If you have a blender or food processor you can steam on the stove or microwave and puree them without buying new appliances that will take up space and become useless after a few months. And better yet, if you take the extra time to do several different kinds at a time you can be set for weeks or months at a time by freezing. Blenders and ice cubes will soon become your best friend!I figured out this trick with a little Pinterest research a little…

Wholesale Budget Hack for Buying Frozen Meats

For the longest time I was shopping for two (me and my husband) and had no need, nor space, for shopping wholesale. Now that we're feeding a family of 4 and still using diapers for 2 I'm finding there's a handful of things from wholesale stores that I've discovered to be of major savings. One of the biggest ones being buying frozen meats in bulk. Several Portions of Chicken Thighs, Tenderloins, and Ground Beef for Much Less $$ Disclosure: I have included some affiliate links throughout this post. Grocery Shopping with my Babies

As a parent of two young toddlers, I've faced some struggles when it comes to grocery shopping. I'll admit they weren't as disastrous as some stories I've heard over the years. But with two kids the logistics of it got a little complicated for a while, and some days one or both kids drove me nuts, especially with the way my worried mind works. Main Struggles Here were some of the issues I've encountered shopping with two kids so far: How do I seat an infant (in a carseat) and a toddler into a shopping cart? Where do I put…

Toddler Screen/TV Time

Hi, I'm Paula. I'm a stay at home mom of two children and I abuse screen time. If you do too, welcome to Screen Time's Anonymous! * This post includes Affiliate Links. Mom's Addiction to Toddler Screen Time For me, the addiction started when my second child was born. I started putting the TV on for my 1 year old to keep him distracted so that I could keep an eye on him while I nursed the baby. Since then I've put it for him when he starts getting too grumpy or jealous, while I cook or clean, or when his sister is…

What You Really Need for Baby Shopping

Congrats, you're expecting a baby! So you're bringing a child into this world and everyone is telling you what you need for the baby. If you're a first time parent you're finding lists from magazines, stores, and online and guess what? A lot of it is just marketing!Companies benefit from advising toward specific items or category of things that most people may not even need. They take advantage of first time parents who are overwhelmed and don't know what to expect. Here's a typical list from Babylist.com I'm a mommy of two, of both sexes no less, and I can tell you…
